The Best Potato Salad and Awards

The best potato salad comes with the worst pictures I have taken i n quite a while, so I guess you’ll have to trust me and believe me when I say this potato salad tastes great.
This is a very simple potato salad that I threw together the other day when I was invited at a barbecue about 10 minutes before the barbecue started (which is also the reason the pics are not that good). Luckily I had boiled potatoes so I only had to come up with a dressing.
I took my inspiration from tartar sauce and mixed mayo with capers, pickles, onion and mustard and here is the result.

And keep reading the post to the end if you want to discover about the awards Manu from Manu’s Menu and Giulietta from Alterkitchen showered me with…..

The Best Potato Salad and Awards

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 4 Servings

  • 1lb peeled boiled potatoes
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1/2 onion
  • 4-5 pickles
  • 2 tbsp mayo
  • 2 tbsp mustard

  1. Start by mixing the mayo and the mustard in a bowl and mix them.
  2. Roughly chop the onion, the capers and the pickles using a knife. Use the simplest kind of pickles you can find, the ones with no mustard, no dill, no sugar, no nothing.
  3. Add the chopped mix to the bowl.
  4. Cut the potatoes in and add them to the bowl.
  5. Mix well, add salt and pepper to taste and serve.

I brought it to a barbecue and it was a big hit!

Now moving on to other Manu from Manu’s Menu and Giulietta from Alterkitchen showered me with awards. I am so happy Manu and Giulietta think I deserved them!

I am sure most of you know Manu’s website and visit it often, but just in case you don’t go ahead and visit her blog: she has great recipes with great step by step pics!

Giulietta is a new blogger and she has great recipes from Italy but also from other countries (most recently India and France). Go check out her blog and show a new blogger your blog-love!

So 7 things you don’ know about me:

  1. I discovered Manu’s Menu when I was looking around for pics for pasta alla carbonara. I had to style my dish and was looking around for inspiration. I loved her photo, followed the link and started following her. Incidentally pasta alla carbonara is my favorite dish.
  2. I am trying to grow vegetables and herbs on the patio of my condo. I planted zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, bell peppers, salad and all sorts of herbs.
  3. I never know if it is potatoes salad or potato salad, tomatoes pasta or tomato pasta and so on. Do you use singular or plural for the main ingredient in those sort of recipe titles?
  4. I am messy, very messy and I often have things laying around the house that should be in closets, cupboard and drawers. Most of the time I walk or work around them rather than putting them away, until I cannot move anymore an then I will put everything away.
  5. I recently started a facebook page, a twitter account for the blog and I started submitting pics to food porn websites. I am not much of a socialite and it took me a while to get onto social networking website and I am not much of a photographer (despite the great camera my dad gave me) so I am still working on making these new things work, if you have suggestion on how to get the most out of these, please let me know.
  6. I have two siblings that are twins and so in my family of five I am the odd member of the family… Also we are all graduate students (PhD for my brother and I and MD for my sister)… I guess we are a family of nerds!
  7. Last but not least I am not a huge sport person and many would think I am not outdoorsy with my Italian outfits, but I like any mountain related sport: skiing, climbing, hiking.

And now I am passing on this award to:

Hi, I'm Pola (and Giulia and Enrico) mamy, of course I' m not completely impartial and I' m proud of them, but believe me: they are NOT nerd!!!

Tomorrow I will cook this salad: tasting the Pola receipts is quite to be with her in the Midwest.

  9. Manu says:

You deserve each and every award! 🙂 Thanks for your sweet words! <3 And really, I had no idea you had "discovered" my blog thanks to my carbonara!!! That's so nice to know! It is one of my family's all time favorites (my almost 4 year old calls it "pasta with egg")!
It was so nice reading about you!
I have the same problem as you with #3! My husband always corrects me on that… it should be singular… but it is hard for us as it can be either singular or plural in Italian!!! And I am a terribly messy person too… scary actually! And I am afraid both my little ones took after me on this… SIGH!!! 😉

Congrats on all of your awards! you deserve them 🙂

  11. Nami @ Just One Cookbook says:

Hi Pola! Congrats on all these awards and thank you for passing them to me. I enjoyed reading about you – all the new stuff I didn't know about (besides your garden in your patio – oh and you condo is so high)! Japanese don't have singular/plural, so I get confused sometimes. Potato is acting like adjective, so that's why it's singular I think. Oh my I need to go back to my English class! Haha.

  12. Nicole says:

    Hi Pola,
    Thanks for the award 🙂
Singular. Potato salad but you would say Pasta with tomato sauce.

    Have a great day!

  13. Congrats on all those awards Pola!! You deserve them all! And thank you thank you thank you for passing them onto me!! xoxo You are terrific!

  14. Paolo says:

Pola, Congratulations and thanks so much for passing on the award! That's a really good way to start the day 🙂

As for your singular or plural question, I have similar doubts all the time and I usually go with what's more popular according to Google 🙂 So, definitely, singular – potato salad and tomato pasta.
